Descriptions and accounts of my trip to Gulfport, Mississippi, where I'll be for two weeks assisting business owners filing for SBA (Small Business Administraton) Disaster Loans, for damages suffered in Hurrican Katrina.
The Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center at the Northwest Michigan Council of Governments in Traverse City is one of 12 offices statewide, providing services and support to the Michigan small business community in the areas of counsel, training and research. Serving Antrim, Benzie, Charlevoix, Emmet, Grand Traverse, Kalkaska, Leelanau, Manistee, Missaukee, and Wexford counties. Satellite offices are located at Northwest Michigan Council of Governments and Traverse Area Chamber of Commerce in Traverse City, Manistee Economic Council & Chamber Alliance in Manistee, and Northern Lakes Economic Alliance in Boyne City. The Region 2 Michigan Small Business & Technology Development Center is located in the Northwest Michigan Works! Building in Traverse City.
I was first approached about taking to trip about four weeks ago. At the time I was enthusiastic, although I did have some concerns about the logistics. Is this mission orgainzed, will I get there and actually help people? The devastation and potential rough living weren't too much on my mind.
